Jeannie and I flew up to Boston on Friday morning for a weekend of baseball, eating, and sight seeing. I took so many pictures, I’m not sure where to start!
We watched all 3 games of the Red Sox/Spankees series. The Sox lost the first 2 games which kinda sucked, but they made up for it with a convincing win in game 3.
Part of our package included a “VIP” tour of Fenway Park. Growing up watching the Red Sox play, I never thought I’d be able to get a behind the scenes look at Fenway.
- Right after we landed and checked our bags at the hotel, we started our vaction with lunch at the Barking Crab.
- Jeannie ponders what she’s going to eat for lunch.
- I’ve been dying to try a “lobster roll” for the longest time. You can see my mussels and Sam Adams Summer Ale (which I seemed to drink a lot of this weekend) in the background.
- At the Barking Crab, you use rocks to crack open your crab and lobster – caveman style.
- Down the street from The Barking Crab is the Boston Children’s Museum with the big Hood milk bottle outside.
- Right after lunch, we headed over to the Sam Adams Brewery for a tour. I always thought that it was called ‘The Boston Beer Company’ but maybe they changed their name.
- They were holding a vote to decide which beer they would release in 2009. I chose the Blackberry Witbier. The other one tasted like carbonated coffee.
- We met Jeannie’s friend, Jill, at Jillians on Lansdowne Street for a few drinks before Friday’s game.
- You can barely see the Green Monster seats hanging over Landsdowne Street… waaaaaaaay down there. If you squint, I think you can see them.
- The banners above our gate remind us who the best team is of the 21st century.
- Our seats were in the “Coca Cola” section of Fenway Park.
- Jeannie enjoys the game. Notice how our unborn child is preventing her from buttoning her jersey.
- This is the pavillion that provided our food and drinks. You can see the famous Citgo sign in the background.
- If you’ve never been to Fenway and have only seen it on TV – these will look familiar.
- Waiting for the game to start on Saturday.
- This the the left field corner of Fenway. You can see where the foul pole is attached to the green monster.
- Jeannie & me in front of the green monster scoreboard.
- Jeannie showing off her guns.
- This is what it looks like behind the green monster. The scoreboard is manually operated. Sucks to be stuck back here. No bathroom, no air conditioning, and only 1 door in/out.
- This is one of the “slits” used to view the game from inside the wall.
- Here’s a view from the top of the green monster. We’re 37′ 2″ from the ground.
- A few years ago, they added seats on top of the green monster. $160 a pop.
- Here’s a panoramic view from the Green Monster seats.
- We also got a tour of the press box area. As you can see, part of my view is obstruced. This seat is where they put the New York writers.
- If you look closely in the right field bleachers, you can see a red seat among the field of green seats. That marks the spot of the longest home run hit in Fenway. Ted Williams happens to be the man to have hit that ball.
- A view of the green monster from the box seats behind (and above) home plate.
- As part of our tour, we got to meet Manny Delcarmen, a relief pitcher with the Red Sox.
- Manny’s autograph and the World Series rings.
- Tony Soprano would be jealous of my pinky rings.
- Dustin heads to the batting cage for some pre-game batting practice.
- Manny steps out of the cage after taking a few swings during batting practice.
- Manny hits a single into left field batting in a run.
- You can’t escape the street bucket drummers. I have to admit, these guys were better than the ones you see in New York City.
- This is the Old State House – the site of the Boston Massacre.
- We did a lot of walking and it was freaking hot out! Jeannie needed to rest on this shaded bench.
- I noticed that this guy had his drinks set up meticulously. If you take a water from the bottom, the whole thing falls apart.
- If you like oysters, this is one place you have to visit while you’re in Boston. They had the best clam chowder of all the chowders we ate all weekend.
- Oysters and my Sam Summer in the background.
- Big Papi crosses home plate after hitting a homer into the right field stands.
- Panoramic view of Sunday night’s game.
- I thought this was pretty cool. After Sunday night’s game, we saw the players leaving Fenway Park. How did I know this was Big Papi? If you look at the cetner of the front wheel, you can see the number ’34′.
- Located between Newbury and Boylston.
- Did you know that there’s a 3 year wait to get married in this church?
- Durgin Park is a bar/restaurant right in Quincy Market. We had lunch here on Monday before heading off to the airport. Durgin Park was established “before you were born.”
- Shepard’s pie, steamed cherrystone clams, and more Sam Summer.
